How can F1 int'l student in US travel to Canada/Mexico? With what papers?
My US visa is expired but I am legal for the duration of the I-20 (Russian citizen). If I go to Canada, what papers would they check on the border to enter Canada (maybe only DL? don't they only check DL for US citizens, how would they know if I am a foreigner?)? Would I have to apply at a US diplomatic mission in Canada for a new visa to come back to the US? I want to go to Canada to practice French but not sure if I want to wait for (if they issue it) a new visa to come back.

You can travel to Canada, Mexico and certain Caribbean Islands on an expired visa as long as you still have a valid SEVIS generated I-20 form. BUT YOU CAN NOT BE OUT OF THE US FORM MORE THEN 30 DAYS! To come back in the US you will need a valid passport, your expired visa, your I-94 form and the valid I-20 (make sure the school updates the form in SEVIS). Normally, when you depart the US you surrender the I-94 form ,however, in the case of short term travel to Canada & Mexico DO NOT surrender it. If you surrender the I-94 at the Canadian border you will not be allowed back in. While you could apply for a new F-1 visa while in Canada, if you get denied (which is very likely) you will not be allowed back in the US. As long as you don't stay more then 30 days and don't apply for a new visa you'll have no problem. Also beware that as a Russian you'll need a visa to get into Canada. If you are very confident that you have a perfect American accent, look american and have an american name they might let you slide by with your driver license but it's highly unlikely (maybe possible if you drive to Canada but there is no way you can get by if you fly in). Also, only a driver license accompanied by a US birth certificate is an acceptable substitute for a US passport. A driver license alone is not acceptable proof to enter Canada.

In February you can expect it to be pretty cold, maybe snowing too so you will need a good warm coat, some warm woolly jumpers and a pair of boots to keep out the cold.A couple of scarves and knitted pull on hats to keep your ears warm would be good too and gloves.

In February it maybe cold.you going to need warm jacket ,boots ,gloves, and you have to be careful how to pack your luggage because some airlines got diffrent rules ,like for example polish LOT -23pounds per person -16kg, and 1 luggage.

Hello, I comfirm others words- in february there will wellcome you a real winter- so take a coat and some warm shoes (do not forget about hat, scarf, gloves- I do not joke- it may be evewn -15degrees and in the morning waiting for tram or bus u will feel it!) In february there also starts here sales- so do not worry if u forget something- u will easy find here anything. I am guessing, that as architecture student, u r going to one of the bigger citie such as- Krakow, Warsaw, Poznan? Each of bigger city in Poland is well connected with citiy-communication, so do not worry. If it is going about baggage- also take some sweaters, but do not forget about t-shirt- in houses we have rather warm (23-25degrees), especcialy in student's one- I remember people dying there cause of hot ;) I suggest you take also some party outfit- students love parties here :) To take notebook for classes is also very comfy and popular- also to the library- we have all these places well adjusted. I also need to warn you- I do not know where you will be living, but take some lock for your suitcase- things happen and better to have percious things locked- just in case Life in Poland is not that expensive, although dollar is not very strong. If you are interested in some more info, u can write me: sicilpol@yahoo.it In general, if you forget something, do not worry- u will find here all u need :) Good luck!

The probability of contracting a stomach virus while visiting Mexico is 60%. Find the probability that amongst 15 students visiting Mexico, More than one student contracts a stomach virus

It is a binomial distribution with P(virus) = .6, P(no virus) = .4 P(0) = (.4)^15 = 0.0000011 P(1) = (15 C 1 ) * (.6)^1 * (.4)^14 = .0000242 P(more than one) = 1 - P(0) - P(1) = .9999747 That's almost a certainty, so in Mexico always look for agua purificado.

I have a student visa, and i dont want to get a tourist visa, its SO complicated, i just want to know if i can use it just to get to Europe, without even getting out of the airport

If you plan to transit through the United States and hold a Mexican passport you will need to get a C-1 transit visa for your travel. A student visa does not authorize the transit through the United States. Source(s): http://trinidad.usembassy.gov/transit_visas2.html ..

Can you use your social security card and a student id to get into the states while comin from mexico?
A friend of mine who recently became a citizen does not have his papers yet, which means he can''t get his drivers license or any state identificiation cards. But he does have his social security card and his college student id. would he be able to get in?

He should have some sort of papers showing what's going on. I wouldn't leave the country and try to come back right now that way. Why can't he just wait until he gets his papers?
2 :
Not if he flys, gotta have a passport for that now. And I wouldnt bet on those two pieces of paper getting him back in on the ground either.
3 :
No as of Jan. 1st he has to have a passport!
4 :
Yeah as of recently he's required to have a passport however as to the flying. I saw a news article two days ago that said the airports were still letting passengers through without passports during this time of transition. They have until sometime in spring i believe before they have to be 100 percent compliant. So according to the article they were pulling patrons aside and informing them of the policy checking them out then letting them pass.

If I payed off my student loan in a foreign country (Mexico) last year, can I deduct taxes from that debt?
in my american tax return? I am filing single, in the state of Washington and itemizing. The loan generated interest which is what I would like to be able to deduct...

no. Not because it is Mexican, but because repaying a loan does not give rise to a deduction. getting a loan is not income and repaying it is not a loss.
2 :
You can if you paid student loan interest on a qualified student loan. Principal payments do not count. Also, if you make enough money, you cannot deduct all or any of the interest, which you might check into if you earned over $100k.
