How safe is it in Cuernavaca, Mexico for American students?
I am thinking about studying in Cuernavaca next summer and I was wondering how safe it is for American (particularly female) students? I would most likely be living with a family during my stay.

it's super safe because practically that whole town is tourism. wealthy and upper middle class mexicans travel there on the weekends to their second homes, many tourist go there to learn english....it's very quaint and safe.

IT IS VERY SAFE! Please click on these links: http://www.safety.uninter.edu.mx/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuernavaca I'm not sure where in the U.S. you live, BUT I HONESTLY FEEL MORE IN DANGER HERE IN THE U.S. THAN IN MEXICO. I've travel'd all over Mexico and I've never had a problem.

Be careful crossing the street. Your greatest danger is of being run over.

It is safe, as long as you don't stay in other houses than the one you are going to homestay, or being in unknown places too late or alone. Try to memorize where you live, in order not to get lost, as well bring a map of the area where you are gonna attend school and home. Also whenever you want to go out, be sure that someone will take you back home, better if the same family that you are going to stay. Have with you the phone number of the home your gonna stay, and try to learn before you arrive to mexico some basic phrases for getting directions being there. (in spanish) How can I get to____(school address)____? Como puedo llegar a _____ nombre de la escuela______? Could you tell me where is a public phone line? Podria decirme donde puedo encontrar un telefono publico? there are a lot of basic and free spanish courses online, for you to practice at least a little. google on "free courses spanish" Good luck and enjoy.
