Do I pay state taxes if I am a NM resident receiving a graduate student stipend from an alaskan university?
I am a resident of New Mexico in grad school in Alaska. Since Alaska has no state income tax, do I then file state taxes with New Mexico for my research assistant stipend?

I don't believe stipends are taxable. But if you get a W-2 or a 1099, file in Alaska to prove residency. Unless you need to file in NM to qualify for next year's financial aid.

How do I become a foreign exchange student?

How do I become a foreign exchange student?
I am in middle school and I don't know if there are any programs out there for me. I'm interested in going to a spanish speaking country. (Aside from Mexico.) Help!?

For a semester or year program, you have to be at least 15. 16 is better, in your junior year of high school. However, this isn't a bad thing. It gives you lots of time to work on your language skills AND to raise money, because programs are expensive. Also, it will also help going into high school knowing you want to do this because your counselor will help you arrange your schedule so you can graduate on time. When the time comes, I recommend one of the top three organizations -- YFU, AFS or Rotary Exchange.
2 :
Of course you can participate in a Spanish speaking country exchange program. I participated in a fabulous program, called HomeStay Spain in SPAIN. After speaking with other kids in the group who had participated in other exchange programs abroad we decided this was the best! If you are interested in a lifestyle immersion experience and willing to learn about Spanish Culture and Lifestyle, this is the most amazing program available. The beautiful and safe town of Santander is known for its cultural refinement, and an atmosphere typical of old Spain. It is so much fun!!! And we learned so much!!!! It was so enriching. I LOVED IT!!! Both my sister and I participated different summers and we had a blast! We made so many good friends we still keep in touch with! The program is really well planned out and people are lovely! Many host families have teens. They even allow you to come with a friend to stay in same host family home or in a different home. And if you sign up early they allow you to choose from the available host families for a perfect fit. Check their website www.beautifulspain.com This program is considered the most complete exposure to a foreign country because as they say it is true that it combines CLASSES (art, debate, street talk, folklore, among others) with FUN and EXCITING ACTIVITIES such as Latin Dance Classes, Bullfight, Boat Excursion, etc…, FULL DAY OUTINGS to places of historical and cultural interest such as prehistoric Altamira Caves, Guggenheim Museum, Roman Ruins, "Capricho de Gaudi", Roman Route Hiking adventure, etc... are also ALL INCLUDED IN THE PRICE while living with a local, loving and carefully selected HOST FAMILY. I know this program allows you to choose from several host families (the type of things this program does, no other program would ever) in order for everyone to be happy. Santander, if you dont know is located on a beautiful bay and flanked by numerous beaches. Best thing is that if you contact this program directly you save over 50% !!!! because it is sold through US organizations (CSIET listed) that buy it and then sell it for more than double.

You can still use your Drivers License as identification until January 31, 2008. Absolutely no changes will be made in regards to identification requirements prior to January 31, 2008. So if you are planning a road trip to Mexico, and you plan on returning to the US before January 31, 2008, you can still use your US Drivers License as ID. On January 31, 2008, Department of Homeland Security is now stating the following: "JANUARY 31, 2008 U.S. and Canadian citizens will need to present either a WHTI-compliant document, or a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, plus proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. DHS also proposes to begin alternative procedures for U.S. and Canadian children at that time." travel.state.gov/travel/cb..._2223.html Please keep in mind that these dates have been delayed in the past, so it would not be surprising if this January 31 date got pushed back a few months. We will keep you posted. The Department of Homeland Security also states that "perhaps" as soon as the Summer of 2008, they "might" "possibly" "potentially" start requiring passports for all land travel across the border. Please note that there is absolutely no set date for when this will happen, and there will be an announcement of at least 60 days prior to when the requirement will actually be implemented. The language is extremely open ended and ambiguous, so don't expect changes anytime soon. Many people who have been monitoring the passport requirement situation still feel that it will be 2009 before passports are actually required. Homeland Security is waiting to finalize the Pass Card technology before implementing the passport requirements, and it does not appear that the technology is very close to being ready for use. Read more from the US Department of State website Below is a quick summary of the new passport legislation, and a timeline of when the changes are expected to be implemented: Why is the Passport Law Changing? As part of the The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, the Department of Homeland Security is supposed to implement a plan that requires all travelers to the US to provide a passport or similar documentation upon entry into the US. This requirement applies to all US citizens and foreign travelers. This plan is called the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. Read more about the WHTI - NOTE - this web page still lists the January 2008 deadline, but the documentation below will show that the deadline has been changed to sometime around June 2009. Also, note the difference between Air and Land travel. When Will Passports be Required for Re-Entering the US from Mexico? This is where the confusion lies! The passport requirements are being applied at different dates for different types of travel. There are 3 different classifications for traveling into the US. 1: Air Travel - (By airplane): As of January 23, 2007, all travelers - including US and Canadian citizens are now required to have a passport when entering the US by airplane. 2: Sea Travel - (By boat or cruise ship): The exact deadline for when passports (or similar documentation) will be required for entering the US by sea has not been set. However, current legislation has been passed that requires the deadline to be no later than June 2009. The sea travel deadline will be the same as the land travel deadline. 3: Land Border Travel - (Driving a vehicle or walking across the border): The exact deadline for when passports (or similar documentation) will be required for entering the US by land has not been set. However, current legislation has been passed that requires the deadline to be no later than June 2009. The land travel deadline will be the same as the sea travel deadline. Why has the Passport Requirement for Land Border Travel Been Delayed? Originally, the passport requirements for land border travel were supposed to be implemented by January 2008, but in October 2006, the President signed into law a delay of this deadline until June 2009. The main reason for the delay is because the Department of Homeland Security is attempting to develop a PASS CARD system. This system will create drivers license-sized cards that will serve as limited use passports for land border entries from Mexico and the US. The Senate recognized that the PASS CARD system could not be properly implemented by the original deadline, so they passed the Leahy-Stevens Amendment which delayed the deadline until sometime prior to (or on) June 2009. Read the actual legislation from Senator Leahy's website Read the documentation of the President signing the June 2009 deadline - Page 3; bottom right paragraph Should You Get a Passport Now? If you think you may be driving to Mexico after June 2009, then you should probably go ahead and get a passport sometime soon. The passport processing times will only get longer as we get closer to the passport requirement deadline. It is currently taking up to 15 weeks to receive a new passport without paying extra for expedition. Plus - you already need a passport if you want to travel to Mexico by airplane!
2 :
yes you can use your birth certificate, drivers license, social security card. school id possibly. I've been to Mexico a few times and they let me come back to the states with proof of drivers license since i didn't have a passport at the time. but i brought the other items just in case. I'm Mexican by the way but i have light skin so i thought for sure I'd get stuck and speaking English and Spanish very fluent hahaha but no. all went well :) have fun. *be careful about the taxi drivers. right when you cross the boarder they will hound you. some taxi drivers are crooked. some on purpose drive you to your location but pretend to get lost to make more money. DO NOT get into a cab if it doesn't look real or if it looks really ghetto and no company info on the doors. makes sure its nice from the outside and looks like a cab. Trust me on this.

beside good result in ur exam,u must have enough money in ur bank n good health, then they w'd issue a visa.

I think you need to get a student visa which allows you to study. For medicine you need to give some exams for residency I believe. All university's have their own requirements for admissions and regarding admission tests. Some require GRE's for masters or sometimes Toefl too.

Of course it is possible to become a foreign exchange student. There are many many exchange student programs and it's not gonna be hard, instead it will probably be one of the best things in her life. Mean while your sister is learning different languages maybe you should try to learn proper english? (you have mistakes like: "agry" ->agree. "posible"->possible. "opertunity"->opportunity. "totaly"->totally.)

why is everyone pointing their finger at Mexico when it comes to the swine flu?

why is everyone pointing their finger at Mexico when it comes to the swine flu?
If you look up the history of Swine flu , it has been around for about 50 years or so. And some of the outbreaks originated in the United States. I guess Americans are the cleanest people in the world. We don't have a gang problem, corruption, bad economics, diseases, college student running around doing inappropriate behavior. I'm glad to be American, but we can just put the blame on other countries all the time.

Does buying pot send money to Mexico or Colombia and does it cause people in those countries to be murdered?

Does buying pot send money to Mexico or Colombia and does it cause people in those countries to be murdered?
There were thousands of killings of innocent people in Colombia 10 years ago due to the drug trade. America is the largest consumer of south American illegal Drugs. Now the murder rate in Mexico is going thru the roof in drug wars and the illegal drug trade is closer to the USA than it was before. So the real question is.. Can we apply legal punishement to college students for funding the Drug/Murder trade?
Law & Ethics - 5 Answers

1 :
Both. And yes, we should be punishing people more for drug possession/use. But society these days is so dam confused, uncaring, high, and ignorant. For god sakes, Lady GaGa was found on coke, and she said in a report that she does pot and she is proud of it. Why is she not in jail? Why in god's name is Charlie Sheen not in jail? Hell, with all the drugs he bought the traders probably have a summer home.
2 :
Not if you buy American.
3 :
Most of the marijuana found in the United States is grown in the United States and all drugs should simply be decriminalized taxed a regulated like tobacco and alcohol all prohibition does is create criminal enterprises if the drug is legal and yields no profit their is no reason to kill each other over it. Why is it that its harder for kids to get cigarettes and alcohol than it is heroin crack pot meth ect because its controlled and regulated. I mean really its such a simple logical look the the prohibition of alcohol and the Violence and criminal empires it created its how many drug cartels were their that imported narcotics into the united states from the 1800s-1930s ? And at the person saying we need harsher punishments for drugs smuggling drugs in most of other country's that bring in coke and heroin punish it with the death penalty obviously that doesn't work you know because it perfect logic that someone with an illegal plant should spend more time in prison than someone who rapes children
4 :
Yes, they should be responsible. However, I believe the legalization of these drugs internationally would be even better, sponsored by the government or approved and legalized vendors. I am Colombian, and drugs have ruined by country. However, if they don't legalize, then they must fight.
5 :
Dude you got a very strong argument there. Sadly it is the true the major consumers here in USA are idnereeclty responsible for the things going on down there and the things going on down there are very ugly. Consumers here. Producers there. Buyers here Drug lords there. Drug lords get kill violence and destruction of communities. This drug bussiness creates jobs and for some you got two choices immigrate illegally (chances of getting caught or die and problems with the goverment) to USA or become a drug dealer (average life when you become one 4 years) leaving a family wife widowed and kids with no father figure leave alone for some years mom dies kids grow to repeat the same cycle immigrate or become a drug leader some do neither grow up turn to be crazy and become alcoholic and drug addcits. The Mexican social fabric gets disrupted and does not stop more grief to a nation already full open wounds and if the Mexican literature and writer Octavio Paz is correct Mexicanos siguen siendo hijos de la chingada Mexican are and will be sons of the motherf*** bitch idk if that translates to that ... for not seens they dreams realized and achivied ...

Yeah right.
2 :
i think its mostly on her. she needs a passport for sure. that's as far as i know.
3 :
Student visa I assume?, you ARE leaving after graduation, right?. Take some good pics, and see her when you get home.
4 :
You probably should have started the application for her already. But go here to start, http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=10fa6138f898d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=48819c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD, if you intend to file a student visa for here there is more to do. You can find the other visas on that site too. Your sister will need to get a passport first, since it is just for your graduation make sure she is registered and paid up for school back home in Mexico. This will help prove that she does not intend to stay and should prove to be a binding tie to her regular residence. Don't wait any longer to get this done, it takes time. And remember that she might still not get the visa. Luck!
5 :
pick her up and have her use a fake i.d. girls do that all the time to get into the clubs when their underage. And if she gets caught drive her back home. some times they get in the club sometimes they don't.
6 :
first she need a passport, once she get it, she need contact american embassy to get visa, in the interview its better if she doesnt say she has family in usa.
7 :
There is not much you can do for her. She needs to be able to satisfy a U.S. consular officer AND a CBP officer that she will in fact return to Mexico after her visit with you is over. She can enter with passport and visa, or a DSP-150 which is the Mexican Border Crossing Card. She must demonstrate admissibility on her own.
8 :
Have her go to the embassy and apply for a visa. They are going to look at how much money she has in the bank and for reasons she will return to Mexico. It is getting very hard to get a visa. Good Luck.

How's your Spanish? You need to pass the very difficult entrance exam in Spanish to even have a chance. Get your GED apostilled. That is done by the Secretary of state of whatever state you live in. Without the apostille and an official translation into Spanish your GED won't work. Mexico has no such thing as a GED, and the grade system is from 1-10. Grade averages don't matter as much as passing an entrance exam. Private universities are very easy to enter into in Mexico: No entrance exam, no final exams, no thesis and you can go to med or law school right after high school.

Do you think that the govenment should build a big wall between mexico and the US?

Do you think that the govenment should build a big wall between mexico and the US?
I heard that a group of people started building a wall already and that if the government doesn't help that they will keep building one. I personally have nothing against Mexicans but I think that they shouldn't come here illegally. It makes it harder for schools to try and teach students who don't speak english(but that can be fixed). It is also hard for hospitals to deal with people who don't have health care. Some people say that we should help mexico and then they wouldn't have to come over here. Well it's not America's job to go out and help every country. It's sad. If I could I'd try and help mexico by building better towns for them and safer areas.

2 :
YES! The US ladder and shovel manufacturers need an economic boost!
3 :
that's the best idea i've heard all day...
4 :
It's our country, not theirs. They have no right to our country. They take our tax money through wellfare and the majority of them take over malls and make them ghetto with their perverted ways. I'd build a HUGE wall so they can't get over.
5 :
I kind of like the double fence idea.
6 :
You are very nice...but funding has already been approved for a small part of the wall and the Bush administration refuses to get started. Perhaps you should ask the Bush administration?
7 :
A wall isn't necessary. A fence is good enough if we only had the resolve to enforce existing laws and toughen up a few others. Putting employers who hire illegals in jail or punitive fines will make coming here pointless. .
8 :
No, they should build a big valley along the border, fill it with water, and stock it with hungry sharks...
9 :
Yes, but without a visa exit tracking system to catch all those who overstay, and enforcement, it still won't be enough to stop the problem. We need to clean house in the White House and Congress, to tell you the truth.
10 :
If the government just dealt with the companies hiring illegals and not giving them benifits then they would leave. Just deal with the problem. But yes a wall worked for the ussr. Remember Berlin.
11 :
walls and fences is for animals not for people do you really believe some walls and fences it would stop the illegal immigrants to cross our border? if you believe that get ready to have many surprise personally walls and fences to the border is just waste of money
12 :
we need to help ourselves before we even think about helping Mexico. and i think if you can't speak English then you should stay in your own country!!! I'm all for building the wall...
13 :
Yes build away and it will stop them especially if we do as Mexico does on its southern border.
14 :
absolutley yes
15 :
Yes,and anyone caught trying go over, under, or through it should be shot.
16 :
Yes I was in Cozumel Two years ago and the Mexicans really really need that wall to keep us "Falling down drunk" alcoholic Americans out of their country. I was never so embarrassed in my life as when we docked and the first thing all the Americans did was run to the bar and continue the drinking they had been doing on the ship. So go for ir Mexico Build that wall the Ancient culture of the Aztecs deserves so much better then some stupid ugly American vomiting on them
17 :
No, a wall should not be built between the US and Mexico. If we want to improve immigration relations between our two neighboring countries we should help the Mexican people instead of exploiting them with sweat shops and the like, causing them to try to escape the poverty in their own country. We, as Americans have to force our companies to either keep their factories in the US and pay Americans a fare wage or when they get to other countries to pay those countries' residents a fair wage! Corporations are hurting Americans who need jobs and Mexicans who also need jobs! The issue is much simpler than we are being led to believe. Mexicans and Americans have to unite and demand that companies pay all people a fair wage.
18 :
How about an electronic fence?
19 :
http://www.georgetown.edu/users/sck4/website/illegal.htm
20 :
Pumpkin: No one is building a wall, yet. I do think it's a good idea but it's not going to happen. America makes too much money off of the cheap labor of illegal immigrants. Thanks for asking. Have a great day!
21 :
Yes they should build a wall, it should have been built 50 years ago. It's not our fault Mexico sucks. NO AMNESTY!
22 :
Good fences make good neighbors. I have nothing against Mexicans and I even have some respect for those who cross illegally. However, the skills that help them survive the desert are not the same as what is needed once they get here. I think it would be better for all involved if they came into the country legally because we'd know who they are and have control over who is allowed in. We could enforce standards such as not having a criminal record. It would be better for the workers. They would only be allowed into the country if they were guaranteed work. With the loss of cheap illegal labor, employers will have the option of hiring not quite so cheap but legally. They may even choose to relocate to Mexico wich would help the Mexican economy without probably hurting the US very much because much of the money was going to Mexico before anyway. It would be also better for the families who remain behind in Mexico because they wouldn't have to live with the constant possibility of having their loved one and source of income get deported. It would even be better for the Mexican government because it could know where its citizens are.
23 :
No I think that we should adopt all of Mexico and take the citizens under our wing and teach them to be as great as we are. There is a LOT of potential in Mexico.
24 :
They are already building a wall. But that is a stupid idea and should be stopped right now. That wall will bring nothing but trouble, it separates families, hurts relationships with Mexico, and is really pissing of some people.
25 :
Yes!!!A BIG Wall surrounded by a Big Moat stocked with piranhas.!! What else can we do? Who needs the crime they bring in? And neither government is doing one damn thing.
26 :
did u know that Mexico has more natural resources than the US? we don't need to help their people. their government needs to be cleaned out. it is very corrupt. no I'm NOT suggesting an invasion or anything radical or stupid like that. I'm just saying that we dont need to help them. they need to help themselves. there was a law signed and it would build a fence and the funding and all that was ready but for some reason the government has built very little of the promised wall....i support building the wall.
27 :
If Mexico would have no problem revamping their system to allow free flow immigration on both sides of the fence, I have no problem. If it's a one way issue, how is that a fair compromise?
28 :
I agree that more should be done to stop Mexicans from crossing the border illegally. I can't believe that we give them welfare checks, medicaid and schools loans and they can't even speak our language. Maybe a huge electric fence that would send a million volts into their Mexicans asses and cook'em like re-fryed beans is a good idea...just a thought.
29 :
some of you should read this: http://academic.udayton.edu/race/02rights/guadalu4.htm http://www.heartland.org/Article.cfm?artId=19607 they do the jobs americans aren't doing themselves!!!!
30 :
Yes, the government should build a wall on the US/Mexico border. When illegal Mexicans come to the US they take jobs away from US citizens.(I have nothing against Mexicans.) I have a solution. China has a labor shortage. So, all of the illegal immigrants should be shipped to China. That would solve all our problems. China would no longer have a labor shortage, the US wouldn't have to deal with illegal immigrants and the immigrants would have jobs.
31 :
yes
32 :
Only if they are going to put armed military personnel in watch towers to keep them from climbing over , they are pretty good at jumping fences. Its their new favorite hobby, its more popular than soccer now
33 :
I agree completely with norton2628. A wall isn't the answer. Besides didn't you know that there are also tunnels going from Mexico to the U.S. They use those also to come over illegally and to transport drugs. I heard that on a news program on TV a while ago, so if you think I'm lying then check out yours news before giving me a thumbs down. I have nothing against Mexicans. There is a large population of Mexicans, Cubans and other Latinos here in the apartment complex where I live and many of them are my friends. Good friends! I wouldn't trade them for the world. But I don't condone them coming over illegally either. It is sad that the Mexican government isn't trying to better the economics for their people. If they've actually started something I haven't heard anything about it.
34 :
believe it or not our Farm Bill is a big cause of Mexicans wanting to come here . the bill provides huge $$ to big U.S. agro corporations to over produce corn , soy etc. when this is dumped in world and Mexican markets the peasants can't afford to farm at home anymore . where they gonna go ? stopping the corporate welfare here , keeps them there .
35 :
no
36 :
Why should we help ANYONE?? We have done nothing but blow money on useless wars, corruption, oil and now uneducated fence jumpers. The KKK building the wall is futile at this point because the filth will only dig underneath it. Secure and close the borders, call the troops home, offer a bounty on anyone not documented that is turned in and worry about our own friggin country once and for all....
37 :
To all those who say that a wall would be stupid: if you believe that then maybe you should tell Mexico to stop patrolling their OWN southern border with the Mexican military. If Mexico wants to have any sort of credibility in this immigration debate then maybe they should start following their own advice.
38 :
Yes! Build the wall and spend a lot of money to get it done. When its realized that most problems of the USA are not caused by the illegal immigration. You'll have a big monument of the stupidity.
39 :
No,they shouldn't. And if they were to the Americans should build it with no help from the Mexicans. They want the wall they build it.
40 :
Yes, like the walls Russia built along their huge borders, to keep their people from escaping. It might slow down the flood of illegals to a manageable amount.
41 :
YES! And put armed guards every - (what's the range of an M-16)? In other words, guard our southern border like Mexico guards its southern border.

I'm glad you are interested in studying abroad in Japan! Everyone I know who has come back from Japan absolutely LOVES it there. Becoming a foreign exchange student can take some time, especially when it comes to finding the right program that fits your needs and interests. I am a program advisor for AYUSA Global Youth Exchange, and we provide a lot different academic and summer programs for our US and Canadaian and US high school students at a competitive price. Below are some of our requirements to becoming a high school foreign exchange student (other companies have similar requirements): 1) be a high school student 2) 15-18 years old (you absolutely cannot turn 19 while on program in Japan! Japan is really strict) 3) 2.5 GPA (exceptions considered on a case-by-cae basis) 4) 1 year of Japanese 5) Sound and stable mental and physical health 6) Responsible, mature, adaptable, resilient, and excited about cutural exchange! 7) Have parent and school support As you think about studying abroad, make sure you talk to your parents and high school counselor about your plans and how you can fit studying abroad into your high school graduation!

Looking for my son to fly from The University of New Mexico to chicago for the weekend.

A website that I find very useful is www.itasoftware.com. Click on search air fares and then log in as a guest. It is not a site to book flights, but is searches multiple airlines at once. It will let you know which airlines have the lowest fares. If you see something you are interested in, write down the flight details and you can book it direclty through the specific airline.
2 :
try cheapoair, kayak.com or shermanstravel.com
3 :
The best place to look for this type of discounts is SearchAllDeals. Just start with a search term like "college student discount airfare". Here is a direct link to the search result: http://www.searchalldeals.com/results.html?cx=006616979543893323550%3Aydieztwyczu&q=college+student+discount+airfare&sa=Search+60%2B+sites&cof=FORID%3A10 You should find different discount for student there.
4 :
Go to studentuniverse.com and if that doesn't help then try about.com, go to travel section, then click on student travel under practical traveller. You should find something there. Good luck!

I heard about a school down there that will bring you down if you have a 3.5 gpa or above, and offer in-state tuition to an out of state student and has a pharmacy program or something of the likes... What's it called?

U of New Mexico offers a pharmacy program. Do you mean WICHE? If your state doesn't have a pharmacy school and you get into another WICHE state school, you qualify for in-state tuition.

What is a reasonable rate for teaching ESL to parents at a private school in Mexico?

What is a reasonable rate for teaching ESL to parents at a private school in Mexico?
I have been asked to submit a proposal for teaching ESL to the parents of the kids that attend a private school in Mexico. Is it appropriate to propose that I get paid according to how many students I have or per class per hour? I am a first time teacher of ESL and not familiar with how this works.
Teaching - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
In Mexico usually teachers in private schools are paid per hour....
2 :
People don't usually base their pay according to number of students unless you're tutoring one-on-one. I got paid $15/hour in the US. Not sure if that's possible in Mexico, but you can always ask for $10-15/hour.
3 :
Hi. First it is EFL, not ESL for Mexico. Secondly, are you getting paid by your students or by an institute? If you are getting paid by the students, decide what you want for an hour rate and divide that by the number of students in your class times how many class periods you have. But remember for each 1 hour of class time it usually takes 1 hour of out of class time for prep and admin work associated with the class, so remember that when you are making up your own costs. To this you should add the cost of transportation and materials, I predict 20% of my hourly rate will go into materials. So here is a quick calculation. If you want 20 USD an hour and have 4 students in your class, for 12 sessions and it costs you 2 USD for transport ion each way.: 20 (hourly rate wanted) x 2(for teaching and prep time) + 4 (for materials per class) + 4 (for transportation x 12 (number of sessions) you get 576 USD. Now divide this by 4 (the number of students) and you get 144 USD. Round it up to 149 USD and that is the cost per student for all the classes. http://fundingtravel.com

Fernando, Unfortunately, there are several things working against you... First, student visas are for foreigners who want to study in the US. You need to apply first at a school who then accepts you. Normally you have to be 18 to do this, and it is normally for college level education. Secondly, under the law you cannot change your status while you are inside the US. So, in your case, since you are illegal, you cannot change to another visa while staying in the US and all of a sudden "become legal". Unlike some other posters I'm not going to judge you or you family for coming the to US, illegally or not. However those are the rules. Good luck.

I've had several wonderful experiences with exchange students from France and China and would like to have a student from Mexico for the 09-10 school year. I'm wondering if it is possible to arrange this privately without going through an agency as the agency fees are so high for the student's family. I live in central California.

How can a fresh from college 3D animation student get into the bizz?

How can a fresh from college 3D animation student get into the bizz?
So I just graduated from CNM with a certificate in computer animation, I'm not bad and my teacher said I should look for work right away rather then go get more schooling. Any good tips or help on how to get into the business? I'd really like to do background/prop modeling for either movies or games. Live in new mexico by the way, not much around here for big companies.

Lol... no offense I love the idea that you are passionate about this, and it makes me happy to see that at least you can turn on your computer, but there's not a lot out there for a 3d animator... try to get on at an advertisement company.. that's a good idea.
2 :
To be honest, I have to question the remarks from your teacher. While there are always going to be talented, prodigy type students, the role of the teacher is not to discourage further development. If you are really serious, you must understand that the professionals in animation and game development rely on very complex math and physics skills that are in many cases at the Phd, level. While the certificate may have taught you to the basics, they will not guarentee you a position, esspecially when you are competing with someone who has "Dr." in front of thier name. If you choose not to go to school, the only advise that I can give is to work on as many projects as you can on your own. If you can't show an extensive educational background, then the only other asset will get people to take you seriously is proven experience. Both are recommended for best results. I have been working as a software developer for about 9 years. Before that I was a self taught graphic designer. I am currently finishing my second degree and plan to back just to stay competative in the industry.
3 :
Only getting a certificate in something is like a high school diploma now-a-days. You need at least a bachelors to be even considered for a good job. You might be good, but they need more than that to even consider you. If you want to look for internships at companies, while continuing your education, you might have a shot. Not trying to rain on your parade, but its tough out here. I have a Bachelors in Web Development and Associate of Applied Science, but I still can't get work. So I freelance for now. If there is nothing near you look further out, or worse, think about moving. Arizona and Cali aren't that far from you. Good luck and I hope you decide to get more education. P.S. Your teacher needs to be fired!!!

My boyfriend got married to get his citizenship. He is still married, with his sisters girlfriend. Its all business. He wants to marry me already so I can have his medical benefits. (Im a student w/ a heart condition) He takes his test sometime late next year, so he cant divorce yet. 5 :
Im sorry about your heart condition BUT this aint a situation you want to get caught up in....Here in the u.s., multiple marriages is illegal and I believe your boyfriend would be charged with bigamy.
6 :
I don't think that will work... actually I take that back, If you have money anything can work in Mexico but the question is will it work in the US. just ask the people in charge of the benifits, the worst they can say is no!
7 :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygamy and for another thing, I doubt the U.S. would recognize as a legal marriage. here's a thought how bout waiting and see if it would work out. it's cheaper to get married than it is to get divorced.
8 :
So you are here on Yahoo Answers looking for advice on committing a criminal act? He has married a citizen to get citizenship only. That's a Federal offense. Now you want to marry in Mexico, have that marriage recognized by US officials so you can receive benefits. You two deserve a prison cell together!

What part of Mexico? If it's by the beach, expect to have your fellow class mates bring you there and get tore up on tequila. I went to Mexico (Cabo San Lucas) and it was freakin amazing! We had some foreign exchange students from mexico and they were cool as hell.
2 :
We have all the different climates in Mexico so it depends WHERE in Mexico you're going to... weatherwise. From school, expect the students to be ASSES, unless you're going to a private school, where i would expect them to be a little more civilized. And some advice: don't stick with the wrong crowd, you can be sorry.

You will return a forever changed person probably for the better....... You will see some fantastic people , places and things........ You will also experience the not so glamorous side of Mexico as well. You will return , not the same person as you left and probably for the better............ Here is a few shots of life in Acapulco but it also has some photos of the 2 sides of Mexico. http://www.flickr.com/photos/barron_and_me/ Have fun and explore.........
4 :
Every single state you go to, is a completely new Mexico. It depends on what part of Mexico you go to really. I'll try to sum it up as much as I can by regions since I was moving around the republic during my High School Years. I came here to Mexico in the first month of my Freshman year to study in the southeast Yucatan Penninsula in Merida. I found myself with maybe not the best looking people in the world but I was quickly bombarded with discipline and a sudden change in my grades. The people here were very nice to me and helped me out in every way they could. It was public High School then but it really improved my study habits without me noticing, I went from C's and B's in America to Straight A's for the rest of my life. Soon after I moved to the southwest in Puebla. I saw that the people there weren't as welcoming as they were in Merida but after 2-3 days they started knowing me and I made friends with them. It was a rural Public School but I learned so many life lessons. I learned how to make a living by myself using elements around me. I learned to plant crops, fruits, spices and at the same time I learned how to cook some VERY delicious meals. After that I moved to Puerto Angel, Oaxaca and also assisted public High School. The people there were almost as welcoming as they were in Merida. I also learned a lot more lessons about life. I learned how to fish, snorkel, and I made friends who even taught me how to surf pretty good. My school was basically by the sea and I learned a lot about sea life over there. Also I was surprised finding a lot of European/Asian kids at my school. After that I moved to Mexico City and attended PRIVATE high school at UNITEC and finished the rest of my High School there. I have to say I was very surprised, some days I felt like I was back in American High School but with a much calmer environment. There were pretty good looking people at the school, everyone was nice and minded only their own business. School seemed surprisingly easy and I learned excellent study habits. I made so many new friends and even made friends who were foreign exchange who I could speak English and french with. They showed me around the city. I thought Mexico City was dangerous from what I heard of back when I lived in Las Vegas but when I met my friends they showed me that it isn't bad. They showed me how to walk in certain streets, what neighborhoods not to go into and how to act and even how to properly swear off another "chilango" (Mexico city inhabitant). I saw the most 'dangerous' streets of Mexico (Tepito, La Merced, Iztapalapa, Cuidad Nesa) and never got robbed, assaulted, or even experienced violence. I could probably count more people getting beat up and shot in Las Vegas than in Mexico City.

Are you in Mexico on a Visa or a tourist Permit (FMM) ? This is very ambiguous when some answerer`s call the Tourist Permit a Card and a Visa.....It is neither. Visas have to be applied for at Mexican consulates around the world in countries that are on Mexico`s list of countries that are required to do so. New Electronic FM3s and FM2s are Cards. Here is a very thorough link where you can find all the information you need to know.
2 :
I am actually not sure how that income requirement is handled if you are applying for an FM3 with work permit. The 2 pages below should be helpful. In May there were big changes made to the visa system and rules. You really need to locate the nearest INM office and go in and talk with them. They will answer your questions and guide you. If this job is a low-skilled or a very short term job, it is very unlikely that a work permit will be granted. Most employers who hire foreign citizens know the whole process and help you through it...they not send you to do it on your own. There will be a fee of a few hundred dollars.
3 :
A job offer and a lawyer to help you.
4 :
Try the INM website (given as Source), which asks you step by step for your qualifications and spits out an answer based on your particular kind of FM3. Alternatively, talk to a paralegal (their signs include the words "trámites" and "inmigración") or an attorney who handles INM paperwork ("derecho administrativo").
5 :
Visit the Rollybrook site Charlie posted - has all the info. UUHHMM - If they are sending you to do the leg work - they have probably never done this before and don't realize the in's and out's of what it takes. This is a long ,difficult, gov't process. Cost's a couple of hundred dollars ,and is next to impossible to get.

How soon before Mexico & Obama demand all parties arrested for daring to put Dream Act Student In Prison?
TUCSON, Ariz. -- An illegal immigrant from Mexico will spend the next six years in prison for assaulting two Border Patrol agents near the Arizona border last year. Federal prosecutors said a judge sentenced Jaime Martinez-Garcia, 26, in U.S. District Court in Tucson. Jurors convicted Martinez-Garcia in August of two counts of assaulting a federal officer and one count of illegal re-entry after deportation. Investigators said the incident happened just three days after Martinez-Garcia was deported. They said he fought with one agent and hit the other with a big rock. Martinez-Garcia was shot before he hit the second agent with another rock http://www.kpho.com/news/25966144/detail.html Supporters and Mexico have always said rocks are harmless, how soon before the arrests start taking place ?

He doesn't sound like he would have been a dream act person anyway. If he came here illegally as an adult, then he didn't qualify in the first place. I'm glad he was caught--all violent people should be stopped. Their citizen status shouldn't make a difference.
2 :
Where's the part about the Dream Act student? I'm sorry I'm kinda lost.
3 :
no wouldnt be a dream act beneficiary. dont know why you keep posting these questions. you obviously have the wrong idea of who would benefit from the dream act. let me give you an example. Promising Harvard sophomore, Eric Balderas, faces deportation http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/6099451-promising-harvard-sophomore-eric-balderas-faces-deportation this guy has a full scholarship to harvard, is a molecular biology major, and wants to find a cure for cancer. you can not deny that he would be an asset to this country.
4 :
Should be very soon. Mexicans throw rocks all the time with backing from Mexico rocks are not dangerous and believe the border agents should just turn around and flee, instead of defending themselves

Am I considered an international student?

Am I considered an international student?
I'm very confused about this college thing and all. I was born in mexico, but I'm legal here in the US (resident). Am I considered an international student if I study here in the US? Thanks
Higher Education (University +) - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
If you are a U.S. citizen than you are not an international student.
2 :
If you're a resident in the United States than you're not an International student.
3 :
Being an international student means where your residency lies, it has nothing to do with where you were born. If you are a US resident then you are not an international student! If you are a perm resident and hold a perm res card/green card, then that makes you a permanent resident (in the middle) - you just need to provide that info to the school but you are legal to go to school in the US. Good luck!
4 :
There are different kinds of residency. In lieu of USA citizenship, you must have permanent immigrant status (ie "green card"). There are other forms of residency/work visas available to Mexican citizens — eg TN or TD — which are NOT equivalent to permanent residency status.
5 :
Permanent Residents are considered like citizens.
