I need a high-calorie, nutritious mealplan to cook for 60 students for breakfast in our school in Mexico.?

I need a high-calorie, nutritious mealplan to cook for 60 students for breakfast in our school in Mexico.?
The recipe needs to be low-cost, and practical considering Mexican dietary habits (generally meals made out of maize). I need to be able to cook this in the morning and feed about 60 children with it, with the hopes that it will give them the supplemental nutrition that they need to focus well in class as well as have a healthier day. Thanks for any help.

Try making some breakfast burritos. I would think you could get a lot of the ingredients at low prices. I don't have an exact recipe but here is how I would make them: Breakfast Burritos tortillas eggs cheese salsa onions green peppers Scramble and cook eggs. Separately saute onions and peppers. In a tortilla, place eggs, onions and peppers, salsa, sprinkle on cheese, and roll up. These are higher in protein with eggs and that will help keep the students fuller longer. The salsa and peppers are a good way to get them vegetables. You could even add in some sausage if it is within budget.
2 :
I would add some chorizo the to previous burrito recipe--this will help give them the calories and snice they are children, the calories from the fat will mostly be burned off by their activities. I have spent much time in regions of Mexico so understand your problem. Chef Jack Garrison

Mexico so much, why do they risk their lives to come the the US? Whatever happened to the idea of acculturating?

They want our money and whatever free benefits they can get. Their allegiance is with Mexico, not the U. S. of A.

Because conservative Republicans like Mitt Romney need them to work in his mansions. Is he hiring again, since he lost the GOP nomination?
3 :
That's no big deal. I was living in another country with family for a while and I always talked about USA. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Everyone loves their homeland........ relax!
5 :
How do you know that they aren't? If I live in Cleveland can't I root for Pittsburgh?

I am not sure that I might explain that in a way that you would understand

Because mexico is just a big landfill with humans living in it and their government are a bunch of morons. We're just a bunch of "gringos" to them. My parents immigrated to USA from Russia legally and I'm a born American, Russian-American. USA I will fight and die for and fly the American flag in front of my house. Chingas like them p-iss the s-hit out of me...do you recall seeing them on tv marching down streets flying the Mexican flag? They don't love USA they just infest our cities with gangs, drugs, crime and just want US money.
8 :
This sergey..is kind of an ignorant individual who rants aimlessly about a subject he knows very little about.....
9 :
Because it's much easier for them to come here and sponge off of the tax payers than to try and improve their situation in their own country. They get lots of freebies here especially when they spit out a few anchor babies.
10 :
Just because they live here doesn't mean they are here by choice, or that they worked hard to get here. My husband was forced to come by his mother when he was young. They can still love their native country. I still love things about England, that's where my ancestors come from. There is nothing wrong with it. What makes me mad is when they say they want to be here, but put down the country. That's when I say... then go back if our country is so bad.
11 :
First of all it's "Freedom" that allow them to Shout that. And if all the people on Yahoo would give a Honest Answer for once in their life they can say also that no one but no one wants to see the same Country all their lives. And it's to take care of their Families. The Chinese been doing this very same thing for many Years Driving their little Cars, Flying their little Airplanes across this Border and nothing is said or done about it. Why? Because they come from a Rich Nation and I'm not Picking on them when I say this why? Because the little Chinese girls will Date little White boys. Many know the very Truth about Immigration Reform and what it's all about. The problem is some like myself will take a stand and try and make this World a better place and others will only bring it down. If I had an Mexican Flag right now I will fly it in Support of the Immigrants. Not because Man made me do it but because GOD has gave me the Freedom to do it. Because it is him not Man, Not the Government of the United States but him that know if these Human Beings are this Ugly Word called Illegal so am I and everyone else on this Earth. Especially African Americans because we didn't have any Papers when the White man brought us over here many Years ago to do his Dirty work. And it make me very Sad and Shame of them when they go and Tote that bucket for the same ones that is trying to put them and their Grand Kids right back out there in that Field. And they are out here in this World Hurting their own kind for all of this little do they know where all this is leading to besides a quick Ticket to Hell because we all know GOD don't like what he is seeing in Politics or in this Country right now. No Lands will ever be more Important to him than his very own. Christ didn't go through all of that Cutting and Hanging for this here. He didn't just Die for Mexicans to stay and Work in Mexico or come here when some White man say it's okay. He Died on that Cross so they can do it when ever they want. And if they are Stealing from this Country then it's not as bad as what many has done when they went out and Stole GOD Trees to Build their Homes and make Paper for their kids to go to School with. Author, Eddie Smith.

Because they have no interest in assimilating, They have no interest in speaking English and to be honest with you no interest in becoming American whatsoever. What they do have interest in is taking jobs from Americans and services from our Government! In the process they drive down wages and me and you foot the bill for them to go to school where they can shout things like "Viva La Raza" and "Viva Mexico" while flying mexican flags. The sad thing about it is they see nothing wrong with it!
13 :
they like that free education that they are getting that they should not be getting though huh, why did they cowardly abandon their country then! they should have been picked up and put back over the viva la border!
14 :
They dont like the US- they like Mexico, el salvador, or whatever drug haven they come from. However, their position makes no sense- their countries all suck! they are either Mexico (cant even drink the damn water), or communist coutnries, or drug smuggling countries. all of them are very dangerous, and impoverished, and unadvanced. their culture has NOTHING to show- worse still, they are more overweight than any other race.
15 :
They do have free speech and it's nice to give good wishes to your neighbors. Hopefully they sing God Bless America with even more vigor.
16 :
It just makes me sick to hear stuff like this. I agree with you! I can tell you alot of hispanics talk badly of America but I always tell them well you hate it so much you were willing to risk your life coming over in a trunk with 6 others like sardines.
17 :
What's wrong with being proud of where you come from? my question to you. They risk their lives to support their families, for a better life, a better future for their children. Land of opportunities right? Why does it affect you? I was born in Chicago, but my parents are from Mexico I consider myself Mexican-American and I cheer from both I'm proud of where I come from!
18 :
Sure she did. And wtf does acculturating mean. You should attend that US Adult school with your wife.
19 :
You have obviously not visited Canada during the soccer world cup. Everyone in town cheers for their family's country and flies that country's flag when they are playing and cheer for Canada, with flags, when Canada is playing. People are from all around the world and it works well.
20 :
If they love their country, they should drive or fly to Mexico to celebrate their Independence day! (A litte sacrifice it means a lot.) For instance, I want to say "I love you to my husband." instead I tell the other man. lol

You can do that but it will be expensive and she must be put in private school and cannot attend a public school. uscis.gov Congress enacted a law (Section 625 of Public Law 104-208) establishing section 214(m) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The law that took effect on November 30, 1996, placed limitations on foreign students (F-1) attending publicly funded institutions and created additional requirements for intending F-1 students attending public high schools (grades nine through twelve). Student F-1 visas cannot be issued to persons seeking to enter the United States in order to attend a public primary/elementary school or a publicly funded adult education program
3 :
As a secondary school student, she would only be permitted a student visa for 1 year. And,she would have to pay tuition to the school she would be attending. A niece is not a close enough relative to petition for immigration purposes.
4 :
Yes that can be possible for as long as you have money to spend for all the fees and proof of your financial status that you can support you niece. Her's a link where it can help you about student visa. http://www.immigrationdirect.com/visas/student/Student-Tourist-Visas-dvd.jsp

I don't see any reason why your family could not host an exchange student and have the student travel back and forth with you. It can get complicated when you and the student have after school activities, so you would need to have a plan for that. Everybody, mom and dad, stepmom, stepdad, brothers/sisters/stepbrothers/stepsisters would need to be on board with the plan or it won't work. There would need to be a place available for your student at the school. Most exchange students come for an entire school year, or for one semester. If you know somebody who has hosted an exchange student talk to them about their experience. Contact the school and find out which administrator or faculty member works most closely with the exchange programs at your school and ask him or her who to contact about getting an exchange student. The exchange program from which we have hosted exchange students ( always for a full school year for us) is called AYUSA. Other programs that have students at our school are AFS and Rotary. Exchange students must be at least 15 years old, so any exchange brother or sister would be at least one year older than you and at least one year ahead of you in school. I personally recommend that if you host an exchange student that the student is one who will be getting academic credit for the work that s/he does at your school. This is called "convalidation." Typically these students would be from Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador, Spain, Italy, Korea or Japan. If an exchange student is working for academic credit then there is less of a risk that the student would be sent home for not making the minimum grade standard. If a student is not taking a class for credit then there is a greater risk that s/he will forget that s/he is a "student." Also, talk to all of the foreign language teachers and find out if there are any short term exchange programs available at the school. For example, last year at my kids' school there was a true exchange with a partner school in Argentina, in which some students lived with student families for a few weeks and then the American students went to stay with the family of their Argentinian student. At another school, some French students came to visit for a couple of weeks in the spring, and host families were needed for those students (many of the host students did not even take French, which was fine because the students were here to practice their English.) Most exchange programs are either for a semester or an entire school year. There are exceptions, such as the Rotary Essex family to family exchange. Some exchange programs are better than others, and some local representatives are better than others. This is why I recommend that you find out from your school which exchange programs they prefer to work with.

Can an Australian student apply for a US J1 visa whilst in Mexico?

Can an Australian student apply for a US J1 visa whilst in Mexico?
I am studying in Mexico for a year from this August, and will have finished classes by mid-May 2011. In 2007 I worked at a summer camp in the US, a great experience which I would love to repeat in the summer of 2011. I applied through CCUSA, and will probably do the same this time around. The problem is, my visa application in 2007 involved an interview at the US Consulate in Sydney to get the J1 working visa. Since I will be in Mexico during this stage of the application, I'm wondering if I can apply and have the interview at a US Consulate in Mexico? Thanks in advance!

How can I find cheap flights to Michoacan Mexico from San Jose, CA. Very excited!!?
In December I want to spend my vacations in Mexico. I checked my local travel agency and they range for about a little less $1000!!! I am a college student as if that weren't enough expenses to cover. (college deals, perhaps?) Anyhow, recommend me anything you have tried that has worked for you with details. Thank you! I will greatly appreciate your help!! : )

"How" you find the best price on flights is simple...you spend time on the computer looking on one site after another, day after day until you find the best one you can. People seem to think there is some kind of magic to finding a good price on a ticket...there is not. It is simply "hard work"...not asking someone else to do it for you. Also...you have waited too late to find a "bargain" for Christmas time. Then...Michoacan is not a tourist destination...so therefore you are not going to find "bargain" fares going there. I presume you would fly into Morelia.) The best available fares will be to Guadalajara or Mexico City...then you would need to take a bus...about 4 hours. Also, you will do better if you look for flights from San Francisco, rather than San Jose.
2 :
Have a look at this link, it is my favorite. There are flights that are reasonable if you consider $500.00 reasonable. There are two connections with most , One in the US and one in DF. total time involved is 12 hours. They are available for early December. If you want to get adventurous you could take a bus up to SFO and get a non-stop (5 hours) to DF for $500.usd and collectivo to Tapo, it is very close and can be walked if you are Not packing too much luggage. If you googlemap the airport it is the circular building N/W of Benito Juarez Airport. From there you can get a luxurious 1st class bus and make the 200 mile trek in 4 more hours. The bus is around $40.00 usd (To Morelia)

Your best bet is to contact the Mexican Embassy in Washington. It depends on how long you are going and why you are going. Usually, they just stamp your passport when you go into a country, or look at it. But if you are staying for a long period, then you need a visa, which you get at the consulate. Per the immigration website "The citizens of Belize, Jamaica, El Salvador and Malaysia do not need visa, but they must go to some Mexican consulate to obtain stamp in their passport." That is to go as a tourist.

Why do the simpletons think the Southwestern US belongs to Mexico?

Why do the simpletons think the Southwestern US belongs to Mexico?
College students. You know who you are. Mexico held California for 22 years under a royal family and court, the USA has held it for 150 years. Mexico is a constutional government today, a totally different county from then. The Mexico that held California is extinct. Professors. Stop teaching your students that Arizona is racist for dealing with illegal immigation. Eat your refries, not paint with them. Which Mexico? The Monarchy or the current government?

Maybe because it belonged to Mexico first rather than longer.

Hope: In that case, Central Mexico belongs to the Aztecs. Give Germany to the Celts! Heck, let's bring back the Roman Empire! Or, even better than the Romans, let's restore the New Kingdom of Egypt. Give everything east of Turkey to the Mongols. Funny that you're also probably a person that wants to give the Arabs Palestine.
3 :
those idiots who want to give the southwest to mexico might as well give it to those indians. after all, we know how well they run their reservations

They have been taught "revisionist history" and have become too accustom to the "free stuff" we pay for in taxes. The illegals actually think they are entitled. It' a crazy world.

3 natural laws that govern the ownership of land. 1. You discover it for yourself 2. You buy it 3. You take it Mexicans might have discovered it , bought it, or took the South Western area at one point.. But we took it last and have successfully held on to it since. End of story. The Natural Laws of Land Ownership will always exist for eternity.

After Spain left California, the Rancheros, (like Sepulveda,Pico,Dominguez etc) petitioned every country to sponsor them(France,England etc) They didn't want to be part of Mexico.(of course they dont tell you that) They were elated when California became part of the U.S.) ..by the way, Gold was found in the hills outside of Los Angeles way before Sutters Mill,By a guy picking wild onions(strange but true) they kept it hush because the Rancheros didn't want people flocking to the area in droves.
9 :
It doesn't belong to Mexico. It has an affinity to Mexico. That's why we have place names like Gaviota and La Jolla and not Nantucket or Ipswich, why we had taco, tostada and taquito lunches in elementary school and why, whether they love it or hate it, everyone knows what mariachi music is;-)

the brain drain from other countries except mexico?

the brain drain from other countries except mexico?
i was having dinner with a friend how just returned from Mexico City where he visited the exchange student that he hosting long ago as they have remained friends. as we discussed the current immigration issues, he stated that they educated people in mexico were staying and that their lives were quickly improving and corruption was being reduced. he mentioned that the immigrants from other countrys such as asia etc were the highly educated or skilled people who were coming to America and the assimilated but from mexico, we get the uneducated and unskilled. they are more a drain than an asset. this is another reason all who would come here do it legally so that we might build rather resources rather than use them for people who are not entitled to them.

At the risk of sounding like a "racist" black woman, it's pretty apparent to anyone who is paying attention that we aren't getting the best and brightest from south of the border. Not by a long shot.
2 :
I'm not sure what your question is. Some comments though: You seem to be suggesting that corruption has been reduced in Mexico because of the immigrants moving out. That might be, but I doubt that most of these people were in positions powerful enough to be a cause of corruption. I suspect things have gotten better because the people finally voted out the one-party government they had had for 70 years and put a new party in power. Uneducated and unskilled people are not a burden on society if they work hard. They are usually actually a benefit, because they often provide needed work very cheaply.

What we are getting from Mexico is more pain drain than brain drain. The Mexicans sneaking into America are mostly those who are failures at home and Mexico is glad to get rid of them. They are by definition criminals, and the statistic that worries me most about them is the fact that 95% of all outstanding murder warrants in Los Angeles are for people known to be illegal aliens. How many Americans have to be robbed, raped, and murdered before our government wakes up and guards our borders from the invading hordes?

canadian resident and F1 student can be claimed as depdendent?

canadian resident and F1 student can be claimed as depdendent?
The tax code is so complicated and here is one example. please help. My sister is a Canadian Permanent Resident but she is coming to US to study as F1 student. I will provide support for her but I am not sure if I can claim her as my dependent on the tax return. Here is what I got from IRS web site: "You cannot claim a person as a dependent unless that person is a U.S. citizen, U.S. *resident alien*, U.S. national, or a resident of Canada or Mexico" 1) F-1 students are generally treated as *nonresident* alien with the first 5 calendar years; However 2) my sister has been Canadian resident which seem to meet the citizenship test Since the paragraph says "or" - I guess my sister meets the resident of Canada category? There is no explanation or anything to define :resident of Canada". Any pointers to articles or IRS publishes or answers are appreciated.

As a resident of Canada, you can claim her if she's otherwise eligible. She will need an SSN or ITIN for you to claim her.
2 :
She would qualify as long as you provide more than half of her suppport. Residents of Canada and Mexico are specifically INCLUDED as being eligible dependents as long as they have a Tax ID #. (She needs an ITIN - Individual Tax ID Number)
3 :
You can claim her and depending on your income and any expenses you are paying for her schooling you may qualify for the lifetime learning credit or you could take the expenses as an adjustment.

Well to those that want to take that risk go for it. I know I wouldn't,never will go there again.
4 :
my daughters in h.s. and they go for habitat for humanity i wont let her go this year but her school is still making the trip
5 :
It's really up to you, but Mexico is a dangerous place to be right now. I would recommend staying at a resort if you go and only take group trips if you venture out. Of course, it's up to you, you can live dangerously if you choose.
6 :
Absolutely, understand that Mexico is in a crisis right now. Even though many places such as Cabo, Cancun etc. are tourist destinations you have to understand the risk of visiting a foreign country where drug traffikers are kidnapping and killing people in order to further their ways. You could still go just be aware of surroundings and know where the nearest US Consulate is.
7 :
Drinking age is 18 in Mexico. unless an ocean front state drops there drinking age to 18 its not going to happen.
8 :
Depends where you go. Not ALL of Mexico is bad. There are thousands of Americans living in Mexico. Just do your research and stay out of trouble and the northern part of Mexico.
9 :
Listen to what you are being told. The government does not have to make up stories about the violence in Mexico as it is happening. The drug cartels are fighting amongst themselves and they don't care who gets caught in the crossfire. The major tourist areas are some of the worst for the drug wars but in particular Tijuana, Nuevo Loredo and Nogalas. Cancun and parts of Baja are also involved with this on going problem. Just returned from La Paz and it was basically a military camp with the federales and military all wearing masks to hide their identity. They too are fear full of the cartels.
10 :
Though we all should listen to the warnings and take heed of them, we also cannot let a lot of warnings stop us from living our lives. Go to Mexico, have fun, but stick with a group of people you know and don't do anything deliberately dangerous. Lol, oh yeah, and be careful of the water.
11 :
yes they should listen to the warnings. It is not worth the risk of being kidnapped and killed just to have a little fun. If you stay at a big resort you should just stay there the whole time and have fun there and this war will blow over soon enough so go back after it is over and have fun then.
12 :
If you want to keep your kidneys or be free of bullet holes. I would listen. It is so bad down there right now they are putting dead bodies in front of schools because they want the teachers to give them their bonus checks. But of course that is just along the border in the uncontrolled parts of mexico. About 2 miles from our schools on the border. I don't think it would be bad to go to a resort and stay. And yes they can just grab snorkel or rope and swim or climb right over the border. I wouldn't want to go there. But then again it all happens in America too. You can get shot for your shoes on the corner here also.
13 :
It's all relative. Border towns are notoriously dangerous as are tourist spots at night. It's like roaming around in Detroit at night - unsafe. There are plenty of places to Spring Break in America and just off the coast. I've been to Mexico, Hawaii and the Bahamas, but my fave place was always Ft Lauderdale until the city council cracked down and ruined it. Now I suggest daytona Beach to anyone who inquires of me.
14 :
I think everyone should listen to the warnings and decide themselves to go or not. If going, be very very careful!
15 :
Yes you should listen. But maybe you should hear my story so you know that this happens to real people. Three weeks ago my sisters best friend just left there a human duffel bag. She got up to use the restroom and never came back. She was found trying to be crossed the border with her hoodie, her body gutted and stuffed with drugs. this was 3 weeks ago on the cali. border. Please, we miss her so much! Do not let them go! Now the military staff is not allowed to go there, I have friends stationed in San Diego who have wanted to go but are not being allowed.
16 :
The warnings are for the BIRDER areas...these are NOT tourist destinations. Many people with absolutely NO knowledge of Mexico are exaggerating these warnings and claiming that all of Mexico is violent and that the drug cartels are interested in American tourists. Both of those things are completely untrue. Some of the stories people are telling ( even here n Answers are completely made up...there is no documentation for them at all. I am a single American woman living in Mexico ...and Know many others. There are thousands of Americans living in Mexico and I nave not heard of one who has been hurt. Stay out of border areas , stay sober, use your common sense...and you will be fine.

I think that you will need to go back to Russia. But you need to talk to your school's international students office for help. It is odd that your visa expired during your studies. Of course, you are now in the US illegally and you need to be very careful.
2 :
You can visit the American embassy in Canada or Mexico - it depends on what coast you're on, but there is an American embassy in Ottawa, Canada and one in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. This is where you normally have to renew your visa - I am of Romanian nationality, though an American citizen, but I have accompanied my Moldovan friends and boyfriend to Canada on more than one occasion so they could renew their F-1 student visas. Please keep in mind - if your visa is expired, there are many new laws recently passed by the USCIS and Department of State. They may deny your visa in Canada, and you will be unable to return to the U.S. Additionally, if you overstayed on your visa, and floated in the States as a non-status immigrant, you could be considered illegal and may have to return to Russia and apply for the visa there. Usually you only have to return to your home country if you are CHANGING your status, not renewing it, but I don't understand how you have student status until 2012 but your visa expired? You may have initially only been approved for student status until 2012, dependent on your proposed graduation time, but that doesn't promise that your visa will be good until that time. Honestly, if I were you, I would speak with an immigration attorney and get a consultation. You don't want to leave the country and find yourself stranded in Canada or Mexico, or in a situation where you might have to return home.
3 :
An F-1 visa allows you to enter the country. As long as you are maintaining your student status you are legal. Don't leave the country or you will have to get a new visa. Talk to your foreign student office(or whatever it is called at your school) and make sure you are still in status. Good Luck!

How to get a student Visa?

How to get a student Visa?
I am currently residing in the USA illegally since I was brought by my parents as a very young child and I'm attending a county college. I wanted to know if it was possible to return to Mexico and apply for a student visa since I have already been accepted into the college or if I might be able to do it from here. Thanks for any information or personal experience on the subject, it's very much appreciated!

You can't do it from here because you are illegally in the USA. If you leave the USA you'll face a 10 year ban on returning due to the fact that you lived in the USA more than a year as an illegal alien.
2 :
If you are under 18.5 you may just be able to do that you must return to you home country and apply from there
3 :
You can't get a student visa while you are here illegally, you have to apply from Mexico. If you have lived here illegally as an adult, you will get a 10 year ban when you apply for a visa. Once you turned 18,your illegal status became your responsibility, you can no longer use your parents as an excuse for living here illegally. Once your ban is over and you can prove you are able to pay international student tuition, you may be able to come back.
4 :
assuming you're over 18 1/2 Yak Rider is right. even if you're under that, Dave is probably wrong. if you've been living in the US most of your life, your chances of getting a student visa back home in Mexico are pretty poor. You don't really have any ties to Mexico at this point and you'll almost certainly be turned down for a student visa or a tourist visa.

What are typical Christmas gifts given to a child in Mexico?

What are typical Christmas gifts given to a child in Mexico?
I am teaching a group of students a lesson on Christmas in Mexico. From what I have read about Christmas in Mexico, Christmas is still really celebrating Christ's birth! I love that! In the United States, so much emphasis is given to gift-giving from Santa. Do children in Mexico expect lots of gifts like in the USA? Are the gifts big and elaborate or small and meaningful?

I have family that lives in Mexico....Actually, the schools there give out a lunch sack filled with apples, oranges, and nuts to each child. Also, when I moved to texas 5 miles away from the Mexico border I was in High School and our school in the United States did this same thing...I guess fruit baskets are a common gift in Mexico.

Can i go to mexico without a VISA?
Hey everyone, im planning on going to Cancun this spring break! I'm from Bahrain and it is required to obtain a visa to go to mexico since im from Bahrain (American citizens dont need a visa if they are planning to stay less than 6months). I was just wondering if its possible to go there if i got an american visa though(I got a B2*tourist* visa and an F1*student*visa for the USA. Will I still need a Mexican visa to go there? Thanks in advance!

Why would the Mexican government care about a visa to enter the USA? Mexico isn't a state of the USA, it's an independent country. You must meet Mexico's visa requirements to enter Mexico.

Who has the better film program; Montana State or New Mexico State?
I want to go into film making and have offers from Montana State and New Mexico State film programs. I'm still a long way away from getting student loans and such, but when it comes down to it, which school should I go to for the better film education and placement after college? Any suggestions? PS. I did not get into USC or UCLA I'm afraid, they both rejected me, so question is which is better of these two, not which overall film school I should be looking at.

Better??? What are you talking about? ALL film school graduates are likely to be complete failures in the Film Industry. They end up sleeping on the streets of Hollywood in cardboard boxes, until they finally give up and start working for Taco Bell. Choose something adult and responsible to study so that you don't waste your parents' money and end up a parasite. The first thing to do is find a school that wants you and will communicate via email. The link below is a good start. http://www.teachabroad.com/Mexico.cfm They should be willing to set you up with a work visa/permit but usually that is done after you arrive on a tourist visa. A number of schools don't care much about being legal ... and they think they can pay less if you are not. Be careful in that department Keep looking and talking to people, try the Thorntree forum on Lonely Planet and especially try the Dave's ESL Cafe http://www.eslcafe.com/
2 :
i did. first, i began looking for schools on the internet. i found several interested in me, so i set up some interview dates. i went down to mexico and interviewed, and they offered me the jobs. i chose the one i liked the most, and that school began the process of aquiring a work visa for me. i paid for the visa, but they had to make the request, and they also completed all of the paperwork and provided the lawyer. i just showed up with the money for the visa. (all in total, i think it was less than 300 USD) i worked a university, starting at 9 USD an hour, plus benefits, for 25 hrs a week of work, which i survived on just fine for my meager living. at the second semester, i requested a raise, since i had proven myself to be a good teacher, and i was given 18 USD an hour. i knew they wouldn't want to lose me, but i also knew they couldn't keep up with that rate of pay for long, and i was only going to finish out the year. i think if they knew i was staying longer, they would have offered less. i would say 12-15 is competitive in a small university, private or course. and in a big city such as guadalajara or mexico city...you should go for 20-30 USD. the catch is that i have a master's degree in teaching english, which justified my pay, and allowed me to work at a university. if you have a bachelor's in english, with teaching experience...maybe you could also be an instructor at a university, but i'm not sure. if you don't have a degree that goes with teaching...i guess you could work at a language school...but this kind of work is often done without a visa (illegally) and there are no benefits, the pay is around 7-9 USD an hour, the hours flux, and you may not get paid at all sometimes because you don't have any legal basis to fight if you don't! the toughest places to get jobs are the "american schools." these schools require the same, if not more experience, than a high school or middle school in the US. the clients to these schools are often wealthy, and they demand the most experienced teachers.

call a travel agent they will help. ALSO. they are saying DO NOT go to mexico right now, the crimes are horrible and they said spring breakers need to stay out of mexico right now... i went this past summer and it was getting bad then.. GOOD LUCK! :)
2 :
I wouldn't go to Mexico right now, they are having drug wars and it is very dangerous. They have sent out a warning to college students not to go to Mexico over spring break because it is to dangerous. They are averaging 10 kidnappings a day in Mexico and its border towns.
3 :
As a Russian citizen, you cannot get a visa at the border. You must apply at the nearest Mexican consulate. See 1st site to verify that you must apply for a visa. See 2nd site for list of consulates.

How dangerous is Mexico City?

How dangerous is Mexico City?
Me and some friends are planning to move to mexico city for a year after we graduate college. None of us have ever lived in mexico. I speak a little spanish, and I'm not worried about finding a job, but is there a possibility that I'm going to get mugged or beheaded or something? Where is the best place to live in the D.F. for a student?
Mexico City - 7 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Is there a chance you'll get mugged or beheaded or something? Sure. Just like there is a chance of you getting mugged in your hometown or gunned down by drug dealers in the nearest American big city you can name. Mexico City is a HUGE place....bigger than New York City by a large margin. Just like you wouldn't walk through unknown neighborhoods in Harlem late at night while wearing gold jewelry and expensive cameras, you shouldn't do it in Mexico City. If you're the least bit street savvy though and use common sense you will be just fine and have a blast (I sure do). For a student, I'd pick a place to live close to the university (which one is it? UNAM? Spectacular campus if it is....) If you're looking for places in the heart of the city, there's some pretty cool places around Col. Roma at often affordably reasonable rents. Have fun!
2 :
You can get mugged or beheaded anywhere just look at the greyhound in Alberta. The guy got his head cut off on the bus full of people while driving down the road.
3 :
I you go to the bad areas, of course is very dangerous, that's why you need to know what areas you need to go. but I would recomend you before you go to be more fluent in spanish. if you need more help, e-mail me.
4 :
The same as new york city
5 :
just travel i groups because i heard aboit the killings in mexcio city they killed 7 or 8 police near the freeway but by then it should be calmk down by then
6 :
i live in mexico city and i was living in chicago last year... i can tell you it's the same, you just have to be careful about "fake friends" here in mexico city, there's a bunch of nice areas you can live at, about getting a job, you can always try for english schools, some companies pay to pratice and get an "american accent" up to 20 usd per hour/class. if you need any more info, let me know... good luck
7 :
Like some people said you can get mugged anywhere. If you look for the top 10 most dangerous cities Mexico City is not one of them, if you look for top ten most dangerous countries Mexico is not one of them, we have more dangerous places in US than Mexico. I lived in Miami for 5 years, LA for a year, New York, Baltimore Maryland, Washington DC for 8 years and in Mexico City from 2000 - 2005 and you know what Mexico City was very safe comparing to the other cities, people that visit to Mexico City have fear, more when is the first time, when you get there you'll see is totally different, we all have bad experiences but that does not mean that everyone is going to have the same experience or think that this place is dangerous, some time is just bad luck. Mexico City is huge, is the largest city in the world (territory), also the largest metropolitan area in the world, around 23,000 million people live there now, this is the third largest city (population) so when you do an estimate of crime rate / incidents per 100,000 the percentage is nothing compare to cities in the US or any other country. Most of the killing that you watch in the news is on the Mexican border, drug dealers killing each other, or drug dealers killing police officers, agents that had something to do with them. Mexico City is changing very quick, you'll see a lot of police officers in the neighborhoods, visitors and downtown area, I'm not saying that is not dangerous, but not as a lot of people think. Te most commune experience is someone asking you for cash or maybe trying to get your wallet in a bus or metro is rare but can happen or maybe stilling something from your car. I was in Mexico City about a month ago, the city is beautiful and big, I drove from Texas all the way there and no problems. So don't be afraid, go there and learn for your self, I'm sure you will be just fine and you always want to go back, you'll see. There are very nice areas, a lot of restaurants, malls, bars, and other very nice places. I'm planning on moving to Mexico City too very soon. So if you need any help after I move down just contact me. Suggestions avoid bad areas, specialty during the late night hours, practice your Spanish, make good friends there, get to know the areas. Learn emergency numbers, always take an ID with you, (not passport) do not bring a lot of cash with you, bring what you are going to need for the moment there is always a ATM machine near by. Do not carry laptops or expensive cameras at night. Do not leave anything in the car that is visible. Make copies of your documents ID's, passport, DL, credit cards and live them in a safe place. There are a lot of good places to live, I lived in Polanco for many years this is a very nice neighborhood, group of students or teachers rent an apartment and they all share the rent and utilities so they can live in a nice neighborhood. Col. Roma also is nice to live an affordable, Americans like to live by the US embassy or near by neighborhood, Colonia Condesa or Napoles are very nice too, you can walk anywhere in these areas. Coyoacan is another nice place a lot of students live in this areas you can rent an apartment with your friends for some months or you can always look for just a room, these are available for must of the students. By Division del Norte, Universidad, Copilco, to the South of the City is a very nice area too is a little far from downtown but is nice area. to the North out side the city line is Satelite another nice area. Like a said before if you need more information or pictures contact me an I will be glad to give you more information. Good Luck!!!!

If you become a foreign exchange student, do your credits transfer back to your high school?

If you become a foreign exchange student, do your credits transfer back to your high school?
I would maybe like to be a foreign exchange student, but not if I have to take that year over again that I missed. I would plan on doing this my junior or senior year and plan on going to Mexico. Would my credits transfer there? and also where do you sign up for foreign exchange? Thanks

In order to receive credit for sure you have to use a program registered with CSIET. If you do not, it is likely that you will not receive credit. You should also take to your school's guidance councilor about this as they will know about what students have done in the past and what they recommend. The CSIET website is here: http://www.csiet.org/ Most foreign exchange programs have a website for you to submit an online application.
2 :
You would need to ask you high school as they are the only ones that can answer that question.
3 :
Yes, of course they do! Many times, the grades don't figure into your cum.
4 :
What makes you think any school outside the US even uses "credits"? You will need to ask your school what the system is for people who spend time being educated in a different education system.

If he is being deported, he won't need the GED. He can finish his secondary school in Mexico at any appropriate secondary school. The school can enter him for appropriate leaving exams, presumably in Spanish. He will be living in Mexico, where Mexican qualifications are more appropriate.

Make sure you get your passports first. Be careful on to where you plan on going. Mexico has been having a lot of killings right now from the drug cartels. They are actually offering a 1 million dollar bounty to mexican citizens for information on the arrest of these certain individuals. I am of mexican descent and will not go into certain parts of mexico. I would look into taken your mom elsewhere to be be safe.
3 :
I'm also a college student going to Cancun for a week. I've found a deal for about $550 per person on Orbitz. Try this promo code: entertain200. It will be a nice surprise. Take a look at the Hotetur Beach Paradise. Inexpensive, All Inclusive, and relaxing :)
4 :
Go online and do it yourself. Travel agents get their money from you. So why not save it, and use it in Mexico. There are sites where you can check out what others have said about different resorts in Mexico, so you get the real scoop. Go to the airline sites, sometimes they will let you book your whole trip from their site.

Can you tell me about your exchange student experience?
I want to be an exchange student to learn culture and language, but frankly, being away from home scares me. I lived in Mexico for six weeks without my family when I was 15, and it wasn't the happiest of experiences, although I value it still for the things I learned and my exposure to the culture. I guess I just want to know if the exchange experience is worth it. (Right now I'm 16 but I plan on the trip the summer before my senior year) Also, any idea what programs I should go through? Are there certain ones I definitely should avoid?

It depends on where you choose to go. Some places, even if you are away from home, you still kinda feel like you're at home. BUt some places are totally different. I for one chose to go to Japan! yes, it was tough. very tough, I mean Japan is just totally different from the US or california for that matter, but I did learn a lot. I did learn how to live on my own , how to communicate with foreigners (not only Japanese, but even other foreigners) and basically, I did learn a lot of things that i wouldn't learn if I would have stayed in the US. Basically, I learn how to depend only on myself, which is good, I think. And again, yes, it is difficult, you do get home-sick, but it's worth. It also makes it easier if you make friends or new hobbies in the "new" country, so you won't think bout you hometown much. Good luck and have fun. :)
2 :
I was an exchange student through rotary international. To be honest, it wasn't my thing but my parents encouraged me to go. I was so scared to leave home and leave my family you see. But I still went. And it was the best experience in my life. You will learn everything about yourself and the world. I have to admit that it is really a challenge to adjust to the culture and lifestyle of the host country. But, no matter what, you should go for it. The experience you'll get is the most important of it all. Hope you do it. Good luck.

1. Apply for admission at the U of C as an international student. 2. You will need to supply the university with the financial documentation that they request. 3. If admitted the school will send you an I-20. 4. Apply for an F-1 Student Visa at the closest US consulate in Mexico using the I-120 as proof of your acceptance. 5. You'll be interviewed and, if approved, registered in SEVIS. 6. You get the visa and can travel to the USA up to 30 days before the start of class. The cost will be astronomical. $13,000 to $15,000 per semester plus room and meals ($5,100 per year) plus Mandatory Fees, Other Fees and health insurance ($1,100 per year) Round it off at about $40,000 per year. http://www.colorado.edu/bursar/lib/pdf/ugnonresident09-10FINAL.pdf

Is Mexico a dangerous place for college students to go on spring break?
Next spring break, a few friends and myself wants to go to Cancun for our spring break. We will all be 20 years old next year. My parents are very concerned about me going alone with just friends. If we plan on just staying in the resort the whole time, should we be fine?

4 :
Yes, I'm from there, and I live in the US now, but I visit as often as I can. I live in the city and its fine. I think right now the worst places are the border, like Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez, and Mexico city is a little dangerous if your a foreigner. The thing about can cun is that u have to go clubbing! and that obviously involves leaving the resort. But its sooo full of tourists that I really doubt there will be any kind of danger. If you ask any TRUE mexican, Can cun is practically NOT mexico, its a lovely beach with a million tourists thats all. I think you will be absolutely fine, whether you stay in the resort or go out clubbing.
5 :
You might be fine, if you stay in the resort. Islands in the Caribbean are nicer than Mexico and have friendlier governments - in case one of you kids gets into trouble. Honestly, why make your parents worry like that?
6 :
There is a huge debate of the safety of Mexico but overall, it is safe. Like any city you visit throughout the world, if you keep your street smarts, you will be just fine. Due to the drug violence here, a lot of people think that it is everywhere in Mexico. That is far from the truth. I invite you to read the article I recently wrote regarding safety in Mexico. All conclusions based on studies done by San Diego University. http://ezinearticles.com/?Killing-Mexican-Drug-Violence-Myths&id=4250457 Happy and Safe Travels! Kristin
7 :
Stay in the resort destinations and you'll be fine.
8 :
Its only dangerous if you have no common sense, basically do not go looking for anything illegal, do not flash wealth, and do not anger the locals.

Generally, students are there for either the semester or the year. You can be a "welcome" family, however, and if you do that, the student would stay with you for a month or so until another family decided to have the exchange student live with them for the remaining time. There shouldn't be a problem with traveling back and forth between parents so long as the school district is the same, but you will have to check with the program to make sure. You get to "choose" the exchange student: it gives you a short biography, their likes and dislikes, and their country. You later get to read a longer letter and see pictures to finalize your choice. Try looking at IES for getting in contact with someone who would be able to help you. ASSE is another choice. They're both reputable and are for high school students. Good luck!

Can an int'l student work off campus in USA ?
So I started college in a small town in New Mexico this fall as an int'l student and job opportunities here on campus are extremely limited. I mean I have really tried but cant find a job on campus. So in this case can I seek permission to work off campus ? I really need a job since there is nothing to do here and I want to keep myself busy and earn some money so that I can go home and see my parents over the christmas break.

Generally not unless it's an internship as part of your course of study.

I think if you have a work visa? or just go to a place where you want to apply and ask, they'll probably tell you or maybe even hire you and pay under the table. I live in NM and know a few people who had the same problem.

You can legally work for a total of 12 months as an international student, which can either be while you attend school or after you graduate. Most kids like to use this for serious internships or for getting a foot in the door with an American company after they graduate in hopes the company will sponsor them to stay in the US. You need to apply and register any job and pay a fee when applying. Your school will have details. Otherwise just try Craig's list or local ads for pick up jobs like helping the elderly or babysitting.

The best public university in Mexico is UNAM. They have a center for foreign students who want to learn Spanish and teach it as a second language in their countries. This is the webpage: http://www.cepe.unam.mx/index.php?idioma=ing&tema= I think you can find everything you need there. Good luck!!

If you're here illegally and are less than 18, you can probably return to Mexico and apply for a student visa and not have the 10-year bar kick in. Wait to 18 though and you become responsible for your own actions. You probably can go to college if you're here illegally, but you'd probably need to pay full freight, i.e. out-of-state or foreign student tuition. Some states don't let illegal aliens attend college at all, 10 others such as California even provide in-state tuition although you have to have lived in the state 3 years and have graduated from high school there. (As California goes bankrupt, we may even see that benefit done away with.) If you entered without inspection, then there's no way to legalize without returning to your home country. Even marriage to an American won't do that. If you entered with inspection and it sounds like you may have, then marriage to a U.S. citizen would allow you to adjust status without leaving. Without legalizing, there will be no way for you to work legally even with a college degree or degrees.

hey, yo tambien soy de Mexico y vine a Estados Unidos a la universidad... this i what you have to do... look for the college you want to go to.. most colleges have an international student program... Call some colleges ... you have to go through a couple of procedures to be on a F-1 visa-student visa, some of them are... you have to be able to proof that your parents can afford it... they will ask for bank statements, to make sure you can live here on your own without having a job... However.. if you want to get a job you can... its called Optional Practical traning... you can apply as long a you've been attending college at least for a a year... OPT lasts 12 months.. i used mine after i graduated and it was the best decision.. because i was able to work full time and didn't have to worry about school. let me know if you have any questions you can email me by going to my profile and good luck

Speak to the international student office at the college where you have been accepted. You will have to pay out of state tuition rates. And after you graduate you cannot get a job with the degree as all jobs for college grads check immigration status. You will have to return to Mexico to find a job to use your degree. So I suggest studying something they can use in Mexico like engineering. No BA degrees. BS degree only.
4 :
The school will have to accept you and issue the i20 for immigration. But if your out of status that could get you deported. You need to see a lawyer mate
5 :
If you are here illegally, your only option is to leave and apply for a student visa to come back. You can only apply for a student visa from your home country. It cannot be done if you are already here. You cannot change status if you are living here illegally. If you chose to stay here illegally after you turn 18 1/2,you are making the decision as an adult and can be deported with a ban on returning when caught.
6 :
If you are an illegal alien you must return to your own country before you are 18 1/2 years old without penanty. You can then apply to come back legally without penalty. Otherwise, no college, no nothing for you. No American dream because you are an illegal alien.
