How to get from Chicago to Mexico?

How to get from Chicago to Mexico?
I live in Chicago and want to surprise my mom with a trip to Mexico over the summer. What travel agency would you recommend? Or would it be better to just purchase tickets and hotels separately? I'm a college student, so keep in mind my funds are limited!!

Make sure you get your passports first. Be careful on to where you plan on going. Mexico has been having a lot of killings right now from the drug cartels. They are actually offering a 1 million dollar bounty to mexican citizens for information on the arrest of these certain individuals. I am of mexican descent and will not go into certain parts of mexico. I would look into taken your mom elsewhere to be be safe.

I'm also a college student going to Cancun for a week. I've found a deal for about $550 per person on Orbitz. Try this promo code: entertain200. It will be a nice surprise. Take a look at the Hotetur Beach Paradise. Inexpensive, All Inclusive, and relaxing :)

Go online and do it yourself. Travel agents get their money from you. So why not save it, and use it in Mexico. There are sites where you can check out what others have said about different resorts in Mexico, so you get the real scoop. Go to the airline sites, sometimes they will let you book your whole trip from their site.

Can you tell me about your exchange student experience?

Can you tell me about your exchange student experience?
I want to be an exchange student to learn culture and language, but frankly, being away from home scares me. I lived in Mexico for six weeks without my family when I was 15, and it wasn't the happiest of experiences, although I value it still for the things I learned and my exposure to the culture. I guess I just want to know if the exchange experience is worth it. (Right now I'm 16 but I plan on the trip the summer before my senior year) Also, any idea what programs I should go through? Are there certain ones I definitely should avoid?

It depends on where you choose to go. Some places, even if you are away from home, you still kinda feel like you're at home. BUt some places are totally different. I for one chose to go to Japan! yes, it was tough. very tough, I mean Japan is just totally different from the US or california for that matter, but I did learn a lot. I did learn how to live on my own , how to communicate with foreigners (not only Japanese, but even other foreigners) and basically, I did learn a lot of things that i wouldn't learn if I would have stayed in the US. Basically, I learn how to depend only on myself, which is good, I think. And again, yes, it is difficult, you do get home-sick, but it's worth. It also makes it easier if you make friends or new hobbies in the "new" country, so you won't think bout you hometown much. Good luck and have fun. :)

I was an exchange student through rotary international. To be honest, it wasn't my thing but my parents encouraged me to go. I was so scared to leave home and leave my family you see. But I still went. And it was the best experience in my life. You will learn everything about yourself and the world. I have to admit that it is really a challenge to adjust to the culture and lifestyle of the host country. But, no matter what, you should go for it. The experience you'll get is the most important of it all. Hope you do it. Good luck.

Would like some guidance on how to apply for a student visa?
I am currently residing in Mexico and would like to apply for a student visa to study in the US, more specifically the University of Colorado. I want to know the costs and the approximate duration of the whole process from start to finish (scheduling the interview, forms, reciving visa), any experieces would be helpfull. Also i already have a visitor visa, would it be possible to do the whole process from inside the US? And i would like a break down of the whole experience if possible! thanks for the help!!!

1. Apply for admission at the U of C as an international student. 2. You will need to supply the university with the financial documentation that they request. 3. If admitted the school will send you an I-20. 4. Apply for an F-1 Student Visa at the closest US consulate in Mexico using the I-120 as proof of your acceptance. 5. You'll be interviewed and, if approved, registered in SEVIS. 6. You get the visa and can travel to the USA up to 30 days before the start of class. The cost will be astronomical. $13,000 to $15,000 per semester plus room and meals ($5,100 per year) plus Mandatory Fees, Other Fees and health insurance ($1,100 per year) Round it off at about $40,000 per year. http://www.colorado.edu/bursar/lib/pdf/ugnonresident09-10FINAL.pdf

You just need to be accepted by the school. The school's International Student Office handles the entire procedure. They will tell you what part you must do.
