I sent all my papers to the IRS in Austin this year. I fulfilled the substantial presence test for year 2010, and now the IRS is asking me what is my tax treaty name as to be exempt from tax payment. I'm a grad student from Mexico and I would like to know what is this treaty name. All help is greatly appreiated!!!

There is no treaty that exempts grad students from federal income taxes on their US income. If you've been here for more than 5 years you may be able to file as a resident alien but that's the only change that I'm aware of.

You aren't exempt.

You are not exempt. There is no treaty making you exempt.

So, you are claiming you arrived in the US in 2005 or earlier and now are a resident alien for tax purposes. The treaty covers non-residents. If you meet the substantial presence test, article 15 doesn't apply. The student article doesn't exclude anything either.

How do I became an exchange student?

How do I became an exchange student?
I watched this kid on tv and he became an exchange student in Mexico. At that moment on I Was like I wanted to do that too. I really want to go to japan and study there for a year. I am 15 years old and don't know a word of Japanese. I am NOT going to japan because of anime. I believe that is a stupid reason. Japan is a wonder culture and want to learn more about it. So how do I get started and how much will it all cost? Thank you and you will help me a alot.

To be an exchange student and go to japan you need atleast two years experience of learning the language. It costs dependin on where you like 8000-1500 dollars (australian dollars) that is all depending on how long you go there for etc.

Im trying to become an exchange student in Japan also. I have a slight interest in anime but that is most definitly NOT the reason I want to go, I really respect and love Japans culture. :) I also just like the language itslf. I would recommend looking into the program called AFS, its the program im hoping to go through. They offer Semester, Trimester, and Year exchhanges. (Also you can do a summer exchange). The cost is around 11,000 or a year and 8,000 for smester programs. I would also recomend looking at some Japan Exchangers blog, trust me, it helps, lol. Another great thing to look into is YFU, its a diff program you could use to go abroad in Japan through. It costs a couple thousand more, though. (lol ill just throw a couple thousand in there as if its a couple bucks). And about the Japanese thing, you should probably learn the basics before you go such as Hiragana and Kataana. (Two of the three alphabets) But dont get your hopes up with Kanji! XD Im 13 so ive got 2 years to study before I g

you CAN renew it in Mexico, many people do as a matter of fact, it is not an uncommon practice, depending where in mexico you go but there are plenty of US consulates in the country to do so,

Any American college students living in border town of Mexico?

Any American college students living in border town of Mexico?
I will be moving to Mexicali Baja, Mexico soon as a college student. I will be commuting to work in the US side as well as go to school. The rent out in Mexicali is extremely cheap.

I'm curious about which campus you are going to school at in the US? Mexicali is the state capital of Baja California, right on the border, they have several schools and universities located there, and it is a pretty decent city. You can get a Sentri Pass for fast crossing the border. Hot as hell in the summer... but that's why God invented swimming pools, eh? Very interesting idea....

Try the UABC student info in Mexicali. Lots of University Students there, i didnt know theres jobs available, where are u planning to work? in El Centro or Calexico which is closer?Lots of Luck. From a fellow Cachanilla
